‘Superman’ radio actress Stanton dies
Actress Joan A. Stanton, who earned fame voicing character Lois Lane on the radio series
The Adventures of Superman, has died in New York, her family says.
In addition to her
Superman role, Stanton was known for playing secretary Della Street on the TV series
Superman premiered on the radio in 1940 in the wake of the superhero's first appearance in comic books two years earlier.
Stanton, then known as Jane Alexander, joined the series for its seventh episode and went on to provide the voice of Superman's love interest, Lois Lane, for hundreds of
The show, which featured actor Bud Collyer as the title character, appeared in various formats on the radio until 1951, the Times said.
The Times said in addition to her daughter, Stanton is survived by her son, Tim, and her grandson, Liam.
