Punch Energy Explodes Onto the INDY 500 Scene!

May 28, 2009

Punch Energy Driver Wade Cunningham WINS both Pole and INDY 100; Punch Energy Driver John Andretti Excels in Final Qualifying Effort; Punch Energy Partners with Sport’s Iconic Families Petty and Andretti

INDIANAPOLIS, May 28 /PRNewswire/ — With 250,000 exhilarated, screaming race-fans raptly staring down on the starting line-up for the 2009 INDY 500 on-site … and tens of millions more anxiously glued to International coverage on their TVs at home, Punch Energy Drink Founder (and Indiana University Junior) Zac Workman found himself in a truly extraordinary situation.

In his company’s first-ever effort at INDY and surrounded by teams sponsored by the most dominant, high-profile players in the multi-billion dollar energy drink industry, Workman’s Punch Energy brand was already making headlines, and proving itself to be ultra-competitive on the world stage.

Partnering with two veteran Indycar teams, Sam Schmidt Motorsports and Dreyer and Reinbold Racing, Workman’s early and detailed INDY 500 planning paid off handsomely throughout the infamous “Month of May.”

Among other notable successes, Punch Energy sponsored more drivers than any other beverage brand at INDY in 2009, including IndyPro Series Champion Wade Cunningham, who drove the Sam Schmidt Motorsports / Lucas Oil / Punch Energy entry to both a POLE WIN and RACE VICTORY in the prestigious Firestone Freedom 100. Cunningham’s teammate, Ana Beatriz, qualified the second Punch Energy entry solidly in row two, securing a dominant starting position for both Punch-sponsored cars.

But it was Workman’s third Punch Energy entry, driven by famed INDY 500 and NASCAR veteran John Andretti, that quite literally stole the show – and a huge chunk of the ongoing media coverage – all month long.

Driving for Dreyer and Reinbold Racing, Andretti’s ride was emblazoned with the familiar bright red and blue (and notorious number 43) of Richard Petty Enterprises, as it was announced early in the month that Dreyer and Reinbold would indeed be partnering with “The King” of American motorsport Richard Petty for their 2009 INDY 500 effort.

Partnering a new brand with the two most-recognized family names in racing, at “the greatest spectacle in racing,” is an extraordinary achievement for any company, let alone a first year start-up, but a humble Workman takes it all in stride.

He attributes the “almost instant” success of the Punch brand to a combination of his Grandmother’s age-old (and unbelievably delicious) family punch recipe, backed by the rock-solid Christian values upon which his company is founded.

Having gained regional Anheuser-Busch distribution earlier this year, Workman is confident that his high-profile exposure at INDY, along with the healthy, alternative nature of the Punch Energy product, will continue to propel his brand into new markets.

John Andretti’s successful “final minutes” qualifying run, which gained more than 30 minutes of focused Versus Network coverage featuring the Punch brand, combined with his very respectable 19th place finish in front of an International audience of more than 100 million consumers should do just that.
