McGraw-Hill Construction's Engineering News-Record Editors Honored by Construction Writers Association

ENR's awards are as follows:
Janice L. Tuchman , ENR editor-in-chief, was inducted into the CWA's Hall of Fame, which recognizes journalists for their lifetime achievement in the construction industry. The Hall of Fame was launched in 2008 in honor of the CWA's 50th anniversary. Tuchman, an award-winning construction journalist with three decades of experience, pioneered the magazine's entry into the digital world, including the launch of ENR.com.Tom Sawyer , senior editor, received the Godfrey Body of Work Award, recognizing a writer's versatility, intelligence and superior writing. One of Sawyer's award-winning pieces, "Land Route to South Pole" (ENR2/23-3/3/08 , p. 32), recounts a dangerous journey and terrifying accident inAntarctica . The judges found that "Tom's outstanding research is matched by his gift for drama."- Tudor
Van Hampton , Midwest bureau chief, received the Boger Feature Writing Award for "Higher Learning" (ENR11/3-11/10/08 , p. 28), an investigation on the state of crane safety. Judges praised the article for its "significant premise, unique point of view, excellent story development, and engaging style." Tony Illia , special correspondent, received an Honorable Mention for "Gambling With Lives" (ENR7/28-8/4/08 , p. 28). The judges said, "His vivid writing style captures the shocking failure of the safety culture [in Las Vegas]."
