Canada has new Monopoly champion
Will Lusby of Ottawa, Canada, says he is honored to be the winner of his country’s 2009 Monopoly championship.
Lusby, who defeated 47 other players to win the annual national championship, said in a Hasbro Canada press release Saturday he is fully prepared for the Monopoly World Championship in October.
I have played and loved Monopoly for years, so winning the title of Canadian Champion is an incredible honor, Lusby said.
I’m thrilled to represent Canada at the Monopoly World Championships and will do everything I can to bring the title home, where it belongs.
Contestants from more than 40 countries are expected to compete for the board game’s world championship in Las Vegas.
Lusby, who won $15,000 for winning the Canadian tournament that began May 28, surprisingly offered a bit of insight into his strategy for playing the popular board game.
Trading is critical to success and this philosophy helped me make it to the final, he said.
