NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J., June 1 /PRNewswire/ — TheAlternativePress.com, New Jersey’s all-online hyperlocal daily newspaper, expanded to Chatham Borough and Chatham Township today, now covering ten communities, the most of any all-online daily local news site in New Jersey. The hyperlocal green-friendly newspaper now has more paid local advertisers than Tim Armstrong’s Patch.com and The Local, owned by The New York Times. TheAlternativePress.com also covers Millburn/Short Hills, Westfield, Summit, New Providence, Berkeley Heights, Livingston, and Madison.

Since its launch in October, TheAlternativePress.com has received more than 10 million hits. The site had over 60,000 unique users in May alone. Readership has more than doubled since March. According to Alexa.com, The Alternative Press has significantly increased its ranking among the world’s websites.

Chief Executive Officer of TheAlternativePress.com Michael Shapiro, a lifelong New Jersey resident, said, “Our model of providing professionally reported news, written by paid reporters, through a user-friendly, all-online hyperlocal newspaper, is proving to be a highly successful endeavor.”

“By keeping overhead and production costs low,” Shapiro continued, “we are able to produce a professional hyperlocal online newspaper accessible to more people 24 hours a day at far less cost than traditional hard copy newspapers.” Advisory Board member Jeff Stolowitz added, “Only six months into operation, TheAlternativePress.com has seen its advertising revenue more than triple since January and new advertisers are coming on board each week.”

Steven Simonfay, the owner of Simonfay Landscaping in Chatham said, “TheAlternativePress.com is truly as local as hyperlocal news can get. It has quickly become the go-to-place for daily news and information for local residents.” Simonfay is a member of the Chatham Advisory Board for TheAlternativePress.com and is involved in a variety of community volunteer activities.
