Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s 24th Annual Sports Spectacular Set for Sunday, June 7, 2009

LOS ANGELES, June 1 /PRNewswire/ — Celebrating its 24th anniversary, this year’s Sports Spectacular – the premier sports awards gala in the country – will bring together more than 80 of the nation’s top athletes with 1800 prominent members of the financial, entertainment, legal and corporate communities from Los Angeles and New York. Sports Spectacular 2009 Honorees are professional boxer Laila Ali, professional skateboarder Ryan Sheckler and Miami Heat Dwyane Wade (more honorees to come). This year’s talent line-up onstage will include but not be limited to Snoop Dogg, John Salley, and Jim Hill.

The annual dinner event and silent auction has provided over $18 million to benefit the world-renowned Medical Genetics Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The Institute’s focus is to provide expert consultation and leading-edge research to find new and improved methods of diagnosis, prevention and treatment for all types of genetic disorders, including mental retardation, dwarfism, deafness and malformation syndromes, as well as common diseases of adulthood, such as heart disease, hypertension and diabetes.

Over the years, the event has honored many of the greatest athletes of all time, including Muhammad Ali, Baron Davis, Jerome Bettis, Jimmy Connors, Wayne Gretzky, Joe DiMaggio, Joe Montana, Tony Hawk, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Vin Scully, Shaquille O’Neal, Willie Shoemaker, Pete Carroll, and John Wooden, among many others.
