NEW YORK, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- In commemoration of the 80th Birthday of Anne Frank, Janet Langhart Cohen will present the Washington, D.C. debut public performance of her new one-act play, "Anne and Emmett" in Washington, D.C., June 12 at the Jack Morton Auditorium, GWU (7 p.m., tickets $15 via email at ticketmaster.com or via phone at (202) 397-SEAT or 800-551-SEAT).

The play is a fictional dialogue between teenagers Anne Frank and Emmett Till, one murdered because she was Jewish, the other because he was Black. The play reveals the commonality of the struggles of African Americans and Jewish people and seeks to open a dialogue on racism and anti-Semitism. Future plans for the production include a national tour and inclusion of the play as a part of the curriculum for high schools nationwide. Academy Award Winner Morgan Freeman provides the taped narration. Previous readings have received accolades from Academy Award winners Louis Gossett, Jr. and Michael Douglas, and historical confirmation from Simeon Wright, cousin of Emmett Till.

A long-time race activist, Janet came of age during the Civil Rights Movement and was a young mentee of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She has produced several television programs including "On Capitol Hill with Janet Langhart" and was an overseas correspondent in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Langhart also hosted ABC's "Good Day" show in Boston as well. Currently, Janet Langhart Cohen is President and CEO of Langhart Communications, LLC. When she married Defense Secretary Cohen, she became the first and only Black woman to be married in the U.S. Capitol.
