Harkin to Host Event With Olympic Swimmer Dara Torres
WASHINGTON, June 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Barbara Manard, Ph.D. vice-president of long-term care/health strategies for the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA), will join an esteemed panel Monday at a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) briefing on current HELP efforts to include long-term services and support in health reform. Her appearance is part of AAHSA’s initiative to promote creation of a national insurance trust to help pay for long-term services and supports.
Manard will join Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), a HELP Committee member and long-time advocate for individuals with disabilities. Also speaking is Dara Torres, a 10-time Olympic medalist in swimming, who will share her caregiving experiences and address how the burden of caregiving has a significant impact on women.
