‘Elliot,’ ‘God of Carnage’ win top Tonys

Billy Elliot, The Musical won 10 Tony Awards, including one for best musical, at the 2009 Tony Award presentations in New York Sunday.

The musical, based on the 2000 feature film, Billy Elliot, had more nominations than any other Broadway production, with 15.

A trio of juvenile performers, David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik, and Kiril Kulish, won the Tony for best lead actor in a musical for Billy Elliot, The Musical. Alice Ripley won the Tony for best lead actress in a musical for Next to Normal.

God of Carnage won three Tony Awards, including best play and best lead actress in a play for Marcia Gay Harden. Geoffrey Rush won for best lead actor in a play for Exit the King.

The Norman Conquests won for best revival of a play and Hair won for best revival of a musical.
