Whopper Freakout, a documentary style campaign, showed consumers passionate reactions when they were told that the Whopper had been taken off Burger King’s menu. The work drove double-digit sales for the Whopper, and was credited by Burger King with a 4.2% same store sales increase. It also garnered a tremendous amount of buzz and attention, with 250,000 unique visitors to WhopperFreakout.com in its first month. The original eight-minute video (from which the television spots were cut) had gotten over 15 million views by its second month, with a multitude of consumer generated imitations on YouTube.
CP+B’s wins coupled with those of Colle + McVoy and Dotglu make MDC Partners the second most awarded network at the Effies.
