Hip-hop star Kanye West performed a free concert for about 3,000 students from six Windy City public schools Thursday at Chicago Theatre.
I go for mine, I got to shine,
The Chicago Tribune quoted the Chicago-born rapper as saying during a show offered as a reward to a group of kids who have improved their grades, attendance and behavior in recent weeks. Now throw your hands up in the skyyyy.
The Stay in School benefit concert was organized by the Kanye West Foundation, which was created by West's late mother, educator Donda West, in 2005 to help keep children from dropping out of school. She died in 2007.
It's always this looming thing that my first album was called 'The College Dropout,' which me and my mother always argued about,
West said at the concert. But it wasn't called 'The High School Dropout.' I feel like high school is a necessity. Anything that you have to pay for is your choice.
