MyMojo’s Data On Mobile Consumption Trends Identifies Ringtones And Videos As Fastest-Growing Categories

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., June 16 /PRNewswire/ — MyMojo, a premier online destination for distribution of digital content including ringtones, full-length music tracks, games, wallpapers, videos, and applications, has released stats relating to its mobile content usage. After compiling and analyzing information on the types of media downloaded, the device the media is downloaded to, and genre preferences related to music, ringtones, and video, the data reveals a shift in the types of content consumers are searching for and consuming.

John Ferber, CEO of MyMojo, said “We’ve seen incredible spikes in mobile content consumption, as more people gain access to smart phones and web-enabled devices. The mobile content our users are proactively searching for and downloading closely mimics their preferences in music and television viewing habits. For example, our most popular clips are news, sports, and music-oriented videos. Because we give away all of our content for free, our users perceive their mobile devices as an affordable source of entertainment.”

Despite the rise in consumer interest in video, requests for more traditional mobile content like ringtones and wallpapers still heavily outpace requests for mobile video. Below is a breakdown of MyMojo’s mobile content usage statistics for the month of May:

         Ringtones: 71%
         Wallpapers: 16%
         Games and Applications: 9%
         Mobile video: 4%

MyMojo also noted that the categories of ringtone consumption appear to be shifting.

“While hip-hop fans were a large percentage of the early adopters of mobile content,” Ferber stated. “Fans of other styles of music are now more actively seeking digital content for their cell phones. Consumption of rock, R&B, and country media has climbed significantly over the last few months.”

As the mobile industry progressively evolves, demand for digital media will continue to provide insightful, novel, and vital data for marketers seeking to understand and meet consumer’s preferences.
