The Reverend Luis Cortes, Jr. of Esperanza Wins Two International Latino Book Awards

June 16, 2009

PHILADELPHIA, June 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The 11th Annual International Latino Books Awards winners ceremony was held Saturday, June 13th at Book Expo America in which the Reverend Luis Cortes, Jr., President and Founder of Esperanza, was honored with two awards: Best Reference Book-English for his work A Simple Guide to U.S. Immigration and Citizenship and Best Reference Book-Spanish or Bilingual for the translated version entitled De Inmigrante a Cuidadano.

Esperanza is the largest Hispanic Evangelical network in the United States, committed to strengthening the Latino community. One of the greatest threats to our community is the current, broken immigration system. “I wrote this book in response to the system we have as it currently stands hoping it would be a useful tool for immigrants seeking citizenship,” the Reverend Luis Cortes stated. “I am pleased it is helping the immigrant community and I hope to continue the fight for the unification of families in this great nation.” A Simple Guide to U.S. Immigration and Citizenship is an educational resource for immigrants to understand their rights and to exercise the authority given to them to navigate the system successfully without falling prey to fear tactics, exploitation, or manipulation. A Simple Guide to U.S. Immigration and Citizenship, in harmony with Esperanza’s mission to “help the least of these,” provides hope to those who have been told they have none.

The Reverend Luis Cortes, Jr. is president of Esperanza, the largest Hispanic faith-based Evangelical network in the United Sates. With a national network of more than 12,000 churches, ministries, and community organizations, Esperanza is one of the leading voices for Hispanics in America.
