International Award-Winning Local Artist Set to Hit Career Home Run

Posted on: Thursday, 18 June 2009, 07:46 CDT

JERSEY CITY, N.J., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- After receiving an international award for illustration last year, local resident Robert Castillo is now working on an animated film about the New York Yankees called "Henry & Me," where a little boy meets the famous Yankee players of the past.

Honored at the 2008 Annual L. Ron Hubbard Achievement Awards for Illustrators of the Future, Castillo has utilized the award and publication of his work in the Contest's annual published anthology to advance his career. He has lectured at NYU, has also taught storyboarding to high school students at Automotive High School in Brooklyn, and serves as an Adjunct professor at William Patterson University's Animation Program.

"The L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future contest win was a turning point in my life," Castillo said. "I learned from Mr. Hubbard's legacy that if you put your mind to anything, you can do it.

"Hubbard was the real Indiana Jones, a real life adventurer and taught me that life is an adventure, and to treat it that way."

"Robert Castillo is a perfect example of why we started the Illustrator of the Future Contest to help along the most promising talent - young or old - in the highly-competitive field of professional illustration," said Joni Labaqui, Illustrators of the Future Contest Director.

The Illustrators of the Future Contest was initiated just a few years after the highly-successful creation in 1983 of the annual L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest for new and aspiring writers of science fiction and fantasy. Winning artists illustrate the 13 selected short stories and their work is published in the year's anthology.

Past winners of the contests have had over 500 novels, 1,400 short stories and tens of thousands of illustrations published selling an impressive 31 million books. The contests were initiated by L. Ron Hubbard in 1983 shortly after returning to the field of science fiction with his New York Times and international bestseller Battlefield Earth.
