Dallas Moves One Step Closer to Building Convention Center Hotel

DALLAS, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Omni Hotels and the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau announce the Dallas City Council's unanimous approval of an ordinance to authorize the sale and delivery of $514 million in Dallas Convention Center Hotel Revenue Bonds to finance the 1,016-room Omni Dallas Convention Center Hotel, scheduled to open in early 2012. This comes just four days after the City Council's Economic Development committee unanimously recommended that the City Council approve the financing package.

"Clearly we've already seen a tremendous response to the hotel in terms of future convention bookings," said Mayor Tom Leppert. "Now, we just have to sell the bonds, get to work and finish the hotel in time for groups showing up in January 2012."

"We have received overwhelming positive feedback and interest from meeting planners and associations across the nation in regard to the hotel," said Phillip Jones, president and CEO for the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Along with Omni Hotels, we are ready to book meetings and conventions for Dallas."

In February 2009, Omni Hotels was selected to operate the Dallas Convention Center Hotel. The planned hotel will be connected to the Dallas Convention Center, one of the largest in the US with over one million square feet of exhibit space, to attract more meetings and conventions to Dallas. The current design of the hotel includes over 80,000 square feet of meeting space, several restaurants and lounges and a signature spa.

"Omni congratulates the mayor and City Council for their efforts every step of the way through this process," said Mike Deitemeyer, president for Omni Hotels. "The Omni Dallas Convention Center Hotel is important to the economic growth of our city, and we are ready to move forward."

The luxury hotel brand is headquartered in Las Colinas and currently has three hotels located in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
