June 23, 2009

NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 23 /PRNewswire/ — 821 Entertainment Group continues to expand its feature film development slate of authentic storytelling by entering into an agreement with acclaimed author John Grisham to adapt his NY Times best-selling novel THE TESTAMENT. Company CEO Eric Geadelmann also announced that Academy Award winner Mark Johnson (CHRONICLES OF NARNIA) and Hunt Lowry (A WALK TO REMEMBER) have signed on to develop and produce the feature film, which will re-team Lowry with Grisham. Geadelmann and Ben Horton are developing the film on behalf of 821 as executive producers.

“Mark Johnson and Hunt Lowry are the ideal partners to develop and produce John Grisham’s best-selling novel that combines heart, intrigue and eventually redemption as only Grisham can,” says Geadelmann. Horton added, “To work with John Grisham, Mark Johnson and Hunt Lowry on this project is why I got into the entertainment industry.”

This project re-teams Grisham with Hunt Lowry, who produced the film adaptation of Grisham’s A TIME TO KILL in 1996 and has produced numerous feature films including DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA-YA SISTERHOOD and LAST OF THE MOHICANS. “I’ve always wanted to work with John again and have been searching for the perfect project to do with Mark, so to have all culminate in the making of THE TESTAMENT is exciting,” said Lowry. Academy Award winner Mark Johnson added, “I have been chasing THE TESTAMENT for close to 10 years. The story has always struck me as the perfect blend of personal redemption and good, old-fashioned movie adventure. I cannot wait to get started on this film!” Johnson’s impressive list of credits includes RAIN MAN, for which he won an Academy Award; BUGSY, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, the CHRONICLES OF NARNIA franchise, THE NOTEBOOK and GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM.

An international bestseller, THE TESTAMENT opens with an aged billionaire outsmarting his greedy heirs by signing a bombshell will and then jumping to his death. In a story that combines suspense with adventure, the novel takes readers on an adventure through the Brazilian wetlands and eventually questions one’s character and spirit.

“Hunt Lowry and I had a great time together twelve years ago when we filmed A TIME TO KILL. He and Mark Johnson have been talking about THE TESTAMENT for several years, and I look forward to working with them,” says Grisham.

Since first publishing A Time to Kill in 1989, Grisham has written one novel a year including The Firm, The Pelican Brief, The Client and The Rainmaker, all of which have already been box office successes. There are currently over 235 million John Grisham books in print worldwide, which have been translated into 45 languages.

David Gernert represents John Grisham, Sam Fischer represents Hunt Lowry, David O’Connor at CAA represents Mark Johnson and 821 is represented by Jon Levin at CAA and Greenberg-Traurig.
