‘Transformers’ earns $55M on opening day

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
earned more than $55 million at the U.S. box office Wednesday, its first day in theaters, Variety.com reported.
The second installment in the Transformers
film franchise had the best Wednesday opening in U.S. film history, the entertainment industry trade newspaper noted.
About $16 million in box-office receipts reportedly came from midnight screenings.
The 2007 film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
was the previous Wednesday record holder with $44.2 million on its first day, Variety.com said.
