Michigan Software High-Tech Guy With Theatre Experience Creates Worlds of Fantasy With Scientific Precision

HUNTINGTON WOODS, Mich., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Al Bodgan, software developer, photographer, video editor and writer now enjoys going to science fiction conventions and signing autographs instead of seeking them. Less than one year after winning the 24th annual L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest for new and aspiring writers worldwide, Al has traveled locally to both ConFusion, Michigan's largest and oldest literary science fiction convention and Penguicon - a free software/tech convention that also features science fiction authors.

At ConFusion, Al joined fellow Writers of the Future authors, Dr. Philip Edward Kaldon - a physics professor at Western Michigan University and Writers of the Future Volume XV winner Jim Hines for a Writers of the Future contest panel, which the convention organized.

"I love creating worlds where human biology has changed in strange and interesting ways," Bogdan said. "My goal is to explore what it is to be human by changing the definition, giving the reader a sense of discovery and visceral excitement as they explore worlds and lives that seem both familiar and incredibly strange and unique."

In addition to his first professional publication and a contest cash award last year, Al also took part in a week-long workshop sponsored by the Contest and led by members of the panel of award-winning and best-selling writers.

Past winners of the Writers Contest and its companion Illustrators of the Future Contest have had over 500 novels, 1,400 short stories and tens of thousands of illustrations published with an estimated 31 million books sold. The Contests were initiated by L. Ron Hubbard in 1983 shortly after returning to the field of science fiction with his bestseller Battlefield Earth.
