New Interactive Online Outplacement Program Taking Aim at Nation's Record Unemployment

Posted on: Friday, 10 July 2009, 15:00 CDT

ORLANDO, Fla., July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- A Central Florida entrepreneur and author has launched an innovative interactive online outplacement program that could serve as a lifeline for many of the nation's record unemployed.

Veteran HR executive Matt Durfee is the architect of the Navigator Institute (www.navinstitute.com), a revolutionary concept that he believes modernizes today's outdated outplacement methods and will help put people back to work.

With unemployment already at staggering levels, the timing's perfect.

"The Internet, technology and high energy costs have dramatically changed the way we conduct business - except for the outplacement industry where the core delivery model has barely changed since the 1960s," notes Durfee, who has held management positions at some of the world's largest corporations, including Pepsi Cola, Nestle, Frito-Lay International and Marriott.

"That doesn't work in today's environment, especially with nearly 15 million out of work in this country," adds Durfee, whose book Job Search Skills from the Reluctant Expert (based on Durfee's own experiences of losing and finding jobs on nine separate occasions) will be released later this year.

NI is an interactive online teaching course powered by a team of veteran career development experts who have worked at such corporate giants as Pepsi Cola, Coca Cola Enterprises, Wyndham Vacation Resorts, Disney and Darden Restaurants. These advisors have interviewed thousands of candidates over the years and know what HR professionals are looking for in potential employees. They have poured that knowledge, insight and expertise into the Institute's career development curriculum which covers topics like resume building, interviewing, networking, negotiation and self-marketing.

The Institute also is partnering with search firms around the country in a cooperative effort to help get those unemployed back in the workforce.

NI's online interactive service has been designed for every person in a company's organization - at any level and location, management and non-management alike. From the convenience of one's telephone and computer, a person can benefit from the expertise and resources of the Institute's career development team and learn the essential job search and career transition skills.

"One of the nice things about the Institute is that it lessens the stress of career transition," says Durfee. "Displaced employees are able to develop their job search skills instantaneously and at a pace and location that works best for them - 24/7."
