DALLAS, July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The national law firm of McKool Smith is one of 20 firms from across the United States selected by The National Law Journal for the "Midsize Hot List," a compilation of the country's leading law firms based on the firms' implementation of "creative, innovative strategies."
In a story published June 29, 2009, in conjunction with the first-ever listing, The National Law Journal notes several reasons for selecting McKool Smith, including the firm's expansion into Washington, D.C., and New York during the past two years, and the addition of prominent lateral attorneys in the core practice areas of commercial litigation, white collar litigation and intellectual property litigation. The "Midsize Hot List" covers U.S. firms with 50-300 lawyers, and McKool Smith has slightly more than 100 attorneys.
"We are very happy to be in such good company in the 'Midsize Hot List,'" says Mike McKool, co-founder of McKool Smith. "With general counsel everywhere looking for better ways to spend their litigation dollars, we always work to improve our level of service and control costs at the same time. It's great to know that work resonates with our clients."
Noting that midsize firms "have proven more agile than their bigger competitors," editors from The National Law Journal also discuss McKool Smith's wins in four of the Top 100 Verdicts of 2008, more than any law firm in the nation. The publication also details how many midsize firms like McKool Smith are meeting client demands by offering cutting-edge alternate billing arrangements and fee structures that do not rely on hourly billing.
In addition to courtroom success, exceptional growth, and innovative billing structures, the "Midsize Hot List" criteria include firms' ability to recruit, train and retain talented lawyers. McKool Smith earns high marks based on its pro bono work in the McKool Smith Pro Bono Criminal Trial Program, where the firm's young lawyers provide free legal representation in misdemeanor criminal cases for clients who could not otherwise afford an attorney.
McKool Smith is recognized as one of the premier trial law firms in the United States based on significant courtroom victories and substantial settlements for domestic and international clients. With more than 100 attorneys in Dallas, Austin, Marshall, New York, and Washington DC, McKool Smith handles commercial, intellectual property and white collar litigation for companies and individuals, including major airlines, telecommunications companies, medical device manufacturers, oil & gas concerns, and many others. McKool Smith is recognized in The National Law Journal for winning more of the Top 100 Verdicts of 2008 than any other law firm in the country.
