Cedar Point to Host First-Ever American Heroes Weekend July 18 & 19

Posted on: Monday, 13 July 2009, 12:59 CDT

SANDUSKY, Ohio, July 13, /PRNewswire/ -- Cedar Point will honor the brave men and women who serve our cities and towns and protect our families with a special two-day event when the park hosts its first-ever American Heroes Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, July 18-19.

During this special weekend, police officers, firefighters and EMTs who present their public safety ID will receive an $11 savings on admission to the Sandusky, Ohio, amusement park/resort for themselves and their immediate family.

With 75 rides, including 17 roller coasters, Cedar Point has more rides and more roller coasters than any park in the world. From a relaxing trip on the Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad to huge thrills on the 420-foot-tall Top Thrill Dragster, there's something for everyone.

The park also offers a variety of live shows including a high-energy stunt show with gravity-defying bikers and rollerbladers and an ice-skating show featuring Snoopy.

A fitting end to the evening would be a stroll down the Frontier Trail to see the new Starlight Experience, a themed lighted walkway that uses more than a million LED lights. At 10 p.m., Hot Summer Lights, a nighttime extravaganza that features music, video, pyrotechnics and "Firewater," bursts of flames that climb 25 feet into the air, ends with two patriotic favorites: God Bless the U.S.A. by Lee Greenwood and Kate Smith's rendition of God Bless America.
