NEW YORK, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- This August, the little town of Port Orchard, Washington will be transformed into the fictional community of Cedar Cove as townspeople pull out all the stops to honor their favorite daughter, New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber.
The event kicks off at noon on August 27 and runs through the weekend with closing ceremonies on Sunday, August 30.
Macomber fans are invited to come to Port Orchard to celebrate the release of her ninth Cedar Cove novel, 92 PACIFIC BOULEVARD, and take in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Debbie's CEDAR COVE COOKBOOK, her first culinary effort , will also be released in time for the event.
The concept for Cedar Cove Days was brought to Debbie by a group of local citizens in September 2007. The townspeople had discovered that Debbie's readers were traveling to Port Orchard to find "Cedar Cove" when a story, including a map of the town, was published in USA TODAY revealing it as the inspiration for the books.
The group created Cedar Cove Association, a 501(c)4 non-profit corporation and began to enlist volunteers and plan activities. In addition to financing the event itself, all of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to various community projects.
"I am so honored that my local community is going to all of this work and preparation to transform Port Orchard into Cedar Cove and I'm looking forward to welcoming everyone. Events are planned throughout the long weekend when my readers can have dinner or tea with me, take a guided tour around town, enjoy a boat ride and soak up the atmosphere."
Organizers expect thousands of visitors for the long weekend. Paid admission events, including a gala cruise and dinner at the beautiful Kiana Lodge, a series of teas with Debbie at the lovely Victorian Rose Tea Room, local bus tours and special Chats with the Author, are scheduled along with a variety of free activities such as an arts and crafts fair, a concert by the bay, classic car show and walking tours. For complete information and tickets, readers can log onto www.CedarCoveDays.com.
With more than 100 million copies of her books in print around the world, Debbie has become one of the leading voices in women's fiction today. Her deft style may be best exemplified in the Cedar Cove series, as she explores the complex relationships among family and friends in small town America. She is a multiple award-winner whose work has debuted in the number one position on every major bestseller list, including those of the New York Times, USA TODAY and Publishers Weekly.
