New York Employment Report: Employee Confidence Index Increases for Fourth Consecutive Month; Reaches Highest Level in 2009

NEW YORK, July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York Employee Confidence Index continues to rise, increasing 1.9 points to 47.8 in June, according to the latest Spherion((R)) Employment Report. The monthly survey of New York workers, conducted by Harris Interactive((R)) on behalf of Spherion Corporation, indicates that fewer workers believe the economy is getting weaker, as well as a decline in the number of workers believing fewer jobs are available.

Results from the New York Employment Report:

• One-third (33 percent) of workers surveyed believe the economy is getting weaker, a decrease of 14 percentage points from May.
• Fewer workers (64 percent) are concerned about the number of jobs available, a nine-percentage-point decrease from the previous month.
• Sixty-four percent of workers are confident in the future of their current employer, an increase of four percentage points from May.
  

"Despite the fact that the state's unemployment rate continues to increase, following national trends, more workers are feeling confident about the employment situation," said Linda Perneau, vice president and general manager of Spherion Staffing Services. "Our confidence index continues to increase from month to month, and we are seeing job fears subside somewhat. This month our report shows that 64 percent of workers are confident in the future of their employer, signaling that many employers may be stabilizing and employees are feeling more secure about their current job situation."
