The Los Angeles Dodgers, Children Uniting Nations, and United Care Inc. Host Dodger Day 2009 for Los Angeles Foster Youth

Posted on: Tuesday, 21 July 2009, 15:29 CDT

LOS ANGELES, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Children Uniting Nations (CUN), one of the premier non-profit organizations working with foster and at-risk youth, is proud to announce Dodger Day 2009 on Sunday July 26th. As many as 1,500 youth, hundreds of mentors, and celebrities will come together at Dodger Stadium to share in the excitement of a Dodger game. Dodger Day is a day to celebrate Los Angeles County's foster youth, foster parents, guardians, kinship care providers, mentors, and all of the community members who provide support and advocacy for these special children.

This special day will expose the youth to positive role models and experiences outside of their everyday situation. Festivities will include music, breakfast, games and giveaways for the youth in attendance. Celebrity presenters, the first pitch ceremony, kids taking the field, and of course the main event, the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. the Florida Marlins will highlight the day.

"The hope is that special bonds will be formed, public awareness will be raised regarding the plight of foster children, and participating volunteers will want to become involved by becoming mentors to the amazing children they have met," President/CEO of IT Girl PR Juliette Harris said.

Celebrities supporting the day include: Mel B (Spice Girls; Dancing with The Stars,) High School Musical's Oleysa Rulin, James Kyson Lee (Heroes,) Alyson Stoner (Camp Rock; Cheaper by The Dozen,) Sammi Hanratty (American Girl) and many more.

Dodger Day is a collaborative event sponsored by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Children Uniting Nations, United Care Inc., LA County Dept. of Children & Family Services (DCFS), LA County Probation, and numerous community members throughout the county.
