PHOENIX, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- When talented police officer Ann Moore receives a call that her husband has died from a terrible accident, she cannot help but find something wrong with the scenario. But digging into her husband's past turns up more than she bargained for in the thrilling new novel by Bridget Whitely, "My True North" (published by AuthorHouse).
In a novel that infuses a passionate, enduring love story into a fast-paced crime thriller involving the Mafia, "My True North" invites readers into the world of Ann Moore. A strong, independent woman, Ann cannot believe her luck when she finds the love of her life, Wayne. Wayne was born in Michigan and widowed when his first wife died in a tragic car accident. He had traveled to Arizona to get away and met Ann. They instantly knew they were meant for each other and within a year or so they were married and awaiting the birth of their first child, Phillip.
But Wayne's veiled past would prove to have a way of catching up to him. On a trip for her employer, Ann receives a call from Wayne's best friend, Jack, informing her that Wayne is in the hospital and under full life support. Devastated by the accident and the decision to cease life support, letting go of her one true love, Ann throws herself into discovering the truth about her suspicions regarding Wayne's death. In her heart, Ann knows that it wasn't an accident.
Ann uncovers details from Wayne's past, including his connection to the New York mob scene. As it turns out, Wayne, or rather Lucas Cavalleri, was assigned to dig up information about candidates running for office in the Michigan senate so that the Mafia, Cosa Nostra, could later use the information as blackmail. Lucas and a few other members of the Bone Breakers biker gang have completed their task when everything goes awry. Lucas' wife, Kay, admits to an affair with one of the other informants and a day later is found dead in a car with her lover. Knowing that his life is threatened, Lucas and his best friend Tony flee to save their own lives.
Ann not only finds the secrets in Wayne's dark past, but she also finds the sought-after blackmail information about the senators of Michigan. Instantly, Ann is thrown into the perilous world of mafia crime that Wayne tried so hard to escape. Now she must rely on those she trusts in order to survive.
Well-paced and touching, "My True North" will appeal to male and female readers alike in a love story that tests the bounds of how far we are willing to go for the one we love.
Bridget Whitely was inspired by the true events of her own life and loss of her husband, Brad, to write her first novel, "My True North." She has also written a sequel to Ann's life, "Children of the Valley," to be released in the near future.
