CINCINNATI, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Ohio's premier children's museum will team up with the state's premier ice cream maker for the Ice Cream Extravaganza, Aug. 8, at the Cincinnati Museum Center's Duke Energy Children's Museum.
On that day, the Duke Energy Children's Museum, the Cincinnati History Museum, and the Museum of Natural History & Science will take part in a day-long celebration of everyone's favorite dessert.
Each museum will participate in making ice cream in a unique way, and sharing the treat with visitors.
Velvet's ice creamologists will teach an interactive seminar on the science of ice cream. Visitors between the ages of six and 13 will have the opportunity to enter Velvet's Create-A-Flavor contest.
Each year, one lucky creator gets to see their ice cream flavor produced by Velvet. The winner gets their photograph on the carton of their creation and gets to sit on the Velvet Ice Cream tasting panel for one year.
"We are always looking for quality partners and we found one of the best in the Duke Energy Children's Museum," said Luconda Dager, vice president of Velvet Ice Cream. "We were very impressed with the facilities and programs at the museum and we're looking forward to a continuing relationship."
Headquartered at Ye Olde Mill in Utica, Ohio, Velvet Ice Cream has been a family owned and operated business for nearly 100 years. Founded in 1914 by family patriarch Joseph Dager, Velvet has been run for four generations of the Dager family. Velvet produces more than 500 flavors of ice cream, which can be found in freezer cases throughout the Midwest. The landmark Ye Olde Mill, which houses the company headquarters, an ice cream museum and restaurant, attracts 150,000 visitors a year and is open May through October.
