Writers of the Future Silver Anniversary Event Invitations Announced at San Diego Comic Con

July 23, 2009

SAN DIEGO, July 23 /PRNewswire/ — All past winners of the internationally-acclaimed Writers and Illustrators of the Future are invited as VIP guests and speculative fiction fans as general guests to the upcoming L. Ron Hubbard Achievement Awards and Silver Anniversary dinner on August 29th in Hollywood, it was announced here today at Comic Con.

“We’re making this announcement here since so many working writers and illustrators in speculative fiction got their start from these Contests,” said Joni Labaqui, Author Services, Inc. spokesperson and Contests’ director. “This Con also attracts the fans of speculative fiction who would be most interested in the newest names in the field.”

In making the announcement, Labaqui added that not only will guests meet the latest winners of the Contests, but they will be able to visit with many of the Contests’ marquee professional judges attending this year’s gala, including: Kevin J. Anderson, Doug Beason, Anne McCaffrey, Rebecca Moesta, Larry Niven, Frederik Pohl, Jerry Pournelle, Tim Powers, Robert J. Sawyer, K.D. Wentworth and Dave Wolverton. Illustrating contest judges include Bob Eggleton, Stephen Hickman, Ron Lindahn, Val Lakey Lindahn, Judith Miller, Stephan Martiniere and Cliff Nielsen.

“This will be our most spectacular event yet,” Labaqui said. “Considering we have held past events at the United Nations, Cape Kennedy, the Library of Congress and the Johnson Space Center, this is saying a lot.”

The Ceremony will be held Saturday evening, August 29th, at the Author Services building located in Hollywood, one block west of the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

Every quarter, three writers and three illustrators are selected by a panel of leading authors and artists of science fiction and fantasy. With no entry fee and judging done on an anonymous basis, the criterion is strictly merit. Beside first time publication, benefits include over $30,000 in cash prizes and royalties, a week-long workshop with top professionals of the genre as well as book signings, radio and TV interviews organized by the contest administrators to assist the winners in launching their careers.

Now completing their 25th year, the Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contests were created by best-selling author L. Ron Hubbard to discover and encourage aspiring writers and illustrators of speculative fiction. To reserve seats for the Awards Ceremony, contact Joni Labaqui at joni@authorservicesinc.com.
