Spielberg planning ‘Harvey’ re-make

Hollywood filmmaker Steven Spielberg has signed on to direct and produce a new big-screen adaptation of Mary Chase's play Harvey, Variety.com reported.

The screenplay for the 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks co-production is being penned by Everything Changes and How to Talk to a Widower author Jonathan Tropper.

Chase's play won the Pulitzer Prize in 1944 and was adapted as a film starring James Stewart and Josephine Hull in 1950. The story is about how a man's relationship with his giant rabbit invisible friend affects his family and community.
