DALLAS, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The New America Alliance (NAA), a national network of prominent American Latino business leaders, commends today's Senate vote to confirm the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court. Upon taking the oath as the 111th Justice of the Supreme Court, Judge Sotomayor will become the first Hispanic and third female U.S. Supreme Court Justice.
"This is a historic moment for all of the American Latino community," said Carlos Loumiet, NAA Chair of the Board. "We are profoundly grateful to all of the Senators who voted for her, Democrat or Republican, but we feel we should particularly acknowledge the Republican Senators - Alexander, Bond, Collins, Graham, Gregg, Lugar, Martinez, Snowe, and Voinovich - who found it in their hearts to vote with the Democrat majority to support this outstanding and experienced judge."
Judge Sotomayor brings more federal judicial experience to the Supreme Court than any justice in 100 years, and more overall judicial experience than anyone confirmed for the Court in the past 70 years.
"We congratulate the Senate for confirming a highly intelligent and inspiring woman to the Supreme Court," said John C. Guerra, NAA CEO. "Our community celebrates the confirmation of Judge Sotomayor, who is a superb role model for our youth. She embodies the American Dream, and her confirmation again shows that Dream remains alive."
The New America Alliance (NAA) is a national organization comprised of prominent Latino business leaders united to lead the process of American Latino economic empowerment and wealth-building through economic capital, leadership development, strategic philanthropy, and public policy advocacy.
