S. Florida teen wins ‘Dance’ competition
An 18-year-old South Florida student was declared the winner of the Fox hit show,
So You Think You Can Dance.
Jeanine Mason, who receives a $250,000 cash prize, said she plans to attend UCLA and major in journalism, even though dance and theater interest her, The Miami Herald reported Friday.
The Miami-area Ransom Everglades School graduate, began dancing at age 3, taking classes in ballet and lyrical dance, but said she now specializes in contemporary dance.
"Ballet is beautiful, but I just wanted to get out of that structure and explore movement, Mason told the Herald.
Mason, a fan of the reality show, said she hesitated about auditioning for
Dance because she thought she was too young. She also didn't want the show to interfere with her senior year of high school.
She wanted to make sure that her grades would not be affected and that she would attend her graduation, prom and finish high school in a proper manner, Iliana Mason said of her daughter.
Two other South Florida-area residents reached the Top 10 before being eliminated.
