Timely, Overwhelming & Hilarious: Larry Solomon’s New Book Lampoons Today’s Economic Crisis

August 11, 2009

HONOLULU and DENVER, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ — Outskirts Press author and humor writer Larry Solomon takes a timely look at unemployment in his new book, “Wrongsized — Become Chronically Unemployed in 26 Easy Steps.” It’s a story about an unemployed executive struggling to find a job in today’s market and it’s a laugh-out-loud read. Larry Solomon has written material used on several TV and radio shows. He even had his own popular radio show, “The Larry Clark Show.”

“Wrongsized” is the story of Lance D. Boyle. As the CIO of a branch of a major corporation, Boyle redesigned many of his company’s systems, resulting in his branch showing a profit for the first time in years. But when corporate sends in an efficiency expert with a Harvard MBA and a fistful of pink slips, Boyle finds himself suddenly out of work. His retirement fund is nonexistent, caused possibly by the company’s financial manager Bernie Madoff, and he leaves with next to nothing. After an appropriate period of grieving, Boyle decides to take on temp work, admirably approaching each new task with a can-do attitude, but somehow he manages to royally and humorously screw things up at every turn.

Despite its humorous nature, “Wrongsized” also offers a couple of real-world tips for job hunting. Larry Solomon has decades of experience to draw from, and has also been on the receiving end of a pink slip a time or two. “When I was unemployed I really needed a laugh,” he says, and this was the motivation behind “Wrongsized.” “And after you have finished reading it, you can spend some more time following the tips I have cleverly included to broaden your job search scope. Or, you can color the drawings. Your call.”

“This has got to be one of the funniest books I have ever read on one of the saddest subjects I can think of, Unemployment. What Larry Solomon did with this subject can only be compared to a Mel Brooks’ movie. From introduction to the final page, he will keep you laughing for hours with his insights into corporate America, the job market, the interview and the best one — Temp jobs.” — Amazon.com review

About the Author: Larry Solomon and his wife, Theresa Vita, live in Kakaako, a neighborhood just outside of downtown Honolulu, Hawaii. He currently works in the Human Resources Office at Pearl Harbor.

“Wrongsized” was originally planned as a sitcom. He envisioned an episode per chapter, with a 1 minute quick tip on job hunting at the end of each episode. “Wrongsized” ended up as a humor book instead as Mr. Solomon could not interest an agent, but is still looking.
