E-mails Contained in Dog's Book Give Insight to Canine Kingdom With Unforeseeable Significance

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- When "E-Mails From Shilo" was published last year, little did Shilo's humans understand the implications of revealing the closely held secrets of the canine kingdom contained in for-dog-eyes-only e-mails that Shilo wrote to his net-pal, Max.
"We have been met with very bewildered looks from all the dogs in the neighborhood since the book was published," explains Susan Lustig, Shilo's human and translator of "E-Mails From Shilo." "I'm not certain whether having revealed these secrets will have negative or beneficial consequences between the canines and humans. Actually, I think they are relieved we finally know the truth."
This book developed after Lustig stumbled upon strange files on her computer, files Shilo inexplicably tried to distract her from inspecting. Intrigued, Lustig tracked down a dog translation program on the Internet and discovered that Shilo had been writing about his new life and issues he developed since being given away. He also discussed at length his unique friendship with Sammy the basset, mentor and authority on the early history of dogs and the ancient wolves.
The book has garnered wonderful reviews and comments (Amazon.com) from across the country:
"Behind the amusing, touching and sometimes hilarious thoughts of golden retriever Shilo is a deep spirituality that makes one stop and think. This is a beautifully written book with lots of fun photos. I read it twice and will read it again."

". . .I was captivated by this book. Shilo is a witty, fun, inquisitive. . .& smart Golden Retriever. And I must admit this book made me cry. Twice. Once was when Shilo finally talked about what happened when his first owners gave him up and why that's caused him "issues" today. I won't tell you what the second thing that made me cry is. You're going to have to read it to find out. (It was a good cry!)"

"This is a delightful read... It is deeper than one thinks initially. It is humorous and elicits many chuckles. I highly recommend it to readers of all ages, from children to the elderly. Enjoy!"

"I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story... It's short, sweet, has lots of priceless photos and makes for great reading, over and over again. The premise is very clever and laugh-out-loud funny. While this book is entertaining, I enjoyed it's softer, more poignant side as well."
