Court: Redbox can sue Universal

August 17, 2009

The U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware has denied Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s motion to dismiss an antitrust lawsuit filed by Redbox.

The Federal Court’s decision marks an important step forward in our effort to protect consumers’ right to convenient, affordable access to new release DVDs at Redbox locations nationwide, Mitch Lowe, president of Redbox, said in a statement. We appreciate the court’s thoughtful review of this issue and look forward to pursuing our claim and protecting our consumers’ rights.

Redbox Automated Retail LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Coinstar Inc., offers new release DVDs through its network of self-service kiosks in more than 15,000 U.S. locations.
