Jay-Z offers fans free listen to new CD
U.S. hip-hop artist and producer Jay-Z says he is making his album,
The Blueprint 3, available for a free online listen ahead of its physical release.
The promotional tactic is being orchestrated by Jay-Z, the digital music service Rhapsody and MTV.
The entire album will be available for fans to listen to for free on Rhapsody.com and through MTV’s
The Leak Web site, starting Tuesday — almost two weeks prior to its official release.
Rhapsody will make the album available for purchase beginning Sept. 8, three days ahead of the CD’s street release, with two exclusive bonus tracks.
Three new Rhapsody TV spots featuring Jay-Z and his hit song,
Run This Town, featuring Kanye West and Rihanna are expected to debut starting Tuesday across MTV Networks. In addition to two 30-second ads, Rhapsody will premiere a 60-second version of the ad during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards Sept. 13.
It’s great to get the support of two major music industry players for ‘The Blueprint 3,’ Jay-Z said in a statement.
Rhapsody brought an amazing creative vision to the table, and it was exciting collaborating with them.
Jay-Z’s hands-on participation throughout this creative process has been incredibly refreshing for an artist of his stature, added Jessica Friedberg, senior director of consumer marketing at Rhapsody America.
