The circus’ final weekend is Sept. 11-13 at the Mile High Marketplace, just off I-76 at 7007 E. 88th Ave.

Now in its 7th generation, the Zoppe Family Circus takes you back in time, and entertains you with old-fashioned romance, excitement, action and suspense. Audiences young and old are enchanted by Nino the clown whose gentle humor captivates and amuses everyone.

Giovanni Zoppe is “Nino,” a character who represents the childhood innocence of long ago. And nothing thrills him more than seeing the same expression of joy on the faces of a 3-year old and an 83-year-old at the same time.

“When you come to the Zoppe Family Circus, you become part of the family,” Giovanni promises. “It’s our family entertaining your family. No one sits farther from the ring than 20 feet, and the front row is just inches from the action.”

It’s a nearly 170-year-old tradition started by his great, great grandfather in Italy in 1842. This year’s show is a tribute to Giovanni’s father Alberto, who died last March at age 85. A world-renowned equestrian, Alberto left Italy in 1948 after being recruited by film producer Cecil B. deMille to star in the movie classic, “The Greatest Show on Earth.”

He soon made America his home and continued the family circus here. Today, the Zoppe Family Circus retains the long traditions Alberto brought to America over 50 years ago, including equestrian skills he passed on to his daughter Tosca, now a veteran circus performer herself.

In conjunction with the circus, Mile High Marketplace is hosting The Festival of Nations, Sept. 5-6, and the Zoppe Circus Arts Festival, Sept. 12-13, all in the NEW Event Center complex.

Both festivals will host a food drive to benefit Food Bank of the Rockies.
