Mina Olivera, a classic Latin beauty, is originally from Brazil. She took a circuitous route to arrive at her present home in California. "LOL! Latina on the Loose" is her story, presented principally in English (with a little Spanglish thrown in) in a solo performance. As the first part of the show's title implies, her life so far is largely a comedy, and one which will delight her audiences.
In "LOL! Latina on the Loose," the versatile Ms. Olivera portrays an entire gallery of characters, female and male, including family members, boyfriends, a psychic fortune teller, the racist counselor, a Latina friend who turns out to be a coconut (brown on the outside, white on the inside), and many more. It's a solo performance, augmented with a little use of multimedia.
Having made her professional theatre debut at 13, she pursues a dream to enter the UCLA Theatre School over the objections of a racist counselor who advises her to instead study home economics. A teenage Brazilian beauty in the U.S.A., she finds romantic adventures on both coasts.
She follows the sage advice of her grandmother. Show them your worth. Mina is worthy, all right.
The show is very, very funny. And, the strikingly attractive Mina is pleasant to watch.
