Jade Goody’s widower accused of rape

September 5, 2009

Jack Tweed, the widower of the late British reality TV star Jade Goody, was remanded into custody following a court appearance Saturday on a rape charge.

Sky News reported Tweed, 22, whose hearing was in Redbridge Magistrates’ Court, will remain jailed until Sept. 21 in connection with a single count of rape. The Times of London reported online an unidentified woman accused Tweed of raping her Thursday night after the pair met at a London nightclub.

Two other men, whose identities were not reported, were also arrested. One of those suspects was still in police custody, while the third was freed on bail.

Tweed’s spokesman, Mark Thomas, said a lawyer has been hired to represent his client.

The Times said the rape allegations against Tweed come months after Goody, known best for her appearance on the British reality series Big Brother, died of cancer in March.
