Oprah vying for Jaycee Dugard interview

Oprah Winfrey says she is trying to land the first interview with Jaycee Dugard, who was kidnapped as a child in California and held for 18 years.

Now the 29-year-old mother of two daughters fathered by one of her alleged captors, Dugard was released last month and returned to her family. She has not yet spoken to the media about her ordeal.

A married couple have been arrested in connection with the case, but have pleaded innocent to the charges.

I want that interview, the New York Post said Winfrey told TV's The Insider. Like everyone else in this business I have my people working on that. It's the first time I have ever called up my producers and said: 'Are we on this story? Because I want that interview!'

Winfrey taped the Season 24 premiere of The Oprah Winfrey Show on Michigan Avenue in Chicago this week before an audience of 21,000.
