Kaling under fire for Vegas complaints
Actress, writer and producer Mindy Kaling has come under fire from those who object to her calling their Las Vegas neighborhood sketchy
on television.
Kaling, who plays Kelly Kapoor on the comedy series The Office,
made the remarks during a visit to The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
last week.
The actress told host Ferguson she and her friends followed his suggestion and went one night for a treat at the famous Luv-It Frozen Custard on East Oakey Boulevard, just off Las Vegas Boulevard.
We went to this frozen custard place in, I believe, the most dangerous and sketchiest neighborhood I’ve ever been to in my entire life,
Kaling said, eventually admitting the custard was delicious
and in a way
worth risking her life for.
The Las Vegas Sun reported that a Facebook page called Las Vegas Downtown Neighbors & Luv-It Fans against Mindy Kaling
has been set up to allow those who took umbrage with Kaling’s comments to vent.
The newspaper said that as of Tuesday the Web site had more than 60 fans, some of whom have described her as unsophisticated, classist and sheltered.
Others have called for a boycott of her show.
The custard stand has been in the neighborhood since 1973 and attracts a wide array of customers, including families, artists, Supreme Court justices and celebrities whose custard orders are placed by their limo drivers, the Sun said.
