WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Vida Benavides, former Executive Director for APIAVote and the Community Technology Policy Council, has joined Dewey Square Group's (DSG) Washington office as a principal in the State/Local and Multicultural Practice. Benavides brings more than 20 years of distinguished leadership of successful political, public policy, community organizing, and advocacy campaigns.
As co-founder and Executive Director of APIAVote, Benavides led a comprehensive and multi-faceted effort to mobilize, engage, and promote the participation of Asian-American Pacific Islanders in the 2008 general election. Under her watch, the organization produced a series of national public education events, including a presidential town hall in which President Obama participated. The educational event series and national communication strategy complemented a massive non-partisan voter education and get-out-the-vote campaign.
"Through her record at APIAVote, Vida Benavides once again showed us why she is one of the most innovative, creative, and successful political strategists and community activists working today," said DSG Chairman Chuck Campion. "We are very proud to welcome Vida to Dewey Square and look forward to deploying her unique talents to further the goals of our clients."
As a consultant in private practice, Benavides served as a top advisor to the Kerry-Edwards and Gore-Lieberman campaigns. From 2001 - 2003, Benavides served as the Executive Director of the Community Technology Policy Council, a non-profit organization focused on developing inclusive public policies around technology access for underserved communities. She worked as the Director of Public Liaison in the Department of Voter Participation, Constituency & Training at the Democratic National Committee from 1994 - 1995 and as the Committee's Director of Constituency from 1993 - 1994. She also executed public affairs strategy for the 1992 Clinton-Gore campaign and transition team.
"For the last 20 years, Vida Benavides has proven herself as the rare leader who understands and powerfully harnesses the intersection of political, policy, community, grassroots, and multicultural activism," said Minyon Moore, head of DSG's State/Local and Multicultural Practice. "She will undoubtedly be a unique and indispensable asset to our team."
"I am thrilled to join Dewey Square after working with many of its principals on advocacy and political campaigns throughout my career," said Vida Benavides. "Dewey Square's leadership, reputation, and record are unparalleled. It's an honor to become a member of their team and maximize our collective resources for the benefit of DSG clients."
