‘Precious’ wins People’s Choice in Toronto
Precious: Based on the Novel `Push’ By Sapphire
earned the Cadillac People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, a cinema official says.
Maple Pictures co-president Laurie May said Precious
director Lee Daniels accepted the award Saturday at the Canadian film festival, dedicating the honor to festival co-director Cameron Bailey for his support, The Toronto Star reported Sunday.
The success of Precious
at the Toronto fest comes after Daniels’ film won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
Precious
follows an abused teenage girl and her daily struggles while living in the New York borough of Harlem.
The Star said the Cadillac People’s Choice Award for best documentary went to the film The Topp Twins,
while the people’s Midnight Madness pick was The Loved Ones
from Sean Byrne.
The Toronto festival, which began Sept. 10, concluded Saturday.
