‘Gardens’ stars win Emmy Awards

September 20, 2009

Grey Gardens co-stars Jessica Lange and Ken Howard won Emmys for lead actress and supporting actor in a TV movie or miniseries in Los Angeles Sunday.

This is so wonderful, Lange said, clutching her statuette. I thank you so much. This part was a gift and they don’t come around that often for me anymore, so I’m thrilled. I was thrilled to do it and I’m thrilled to be here tonight.

Irish actor Brendan Gleeson picked up the award for lead actor in a TV movie or miniseries for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Into the Storm.

Now there’s a turnip for the books, Gleeson declared. I’d like to thank the Television Academy for this extraordinary honor and it is an extraordinary honor, given the caliber and the quality and the luminosity of my fellow nominees. … This was a fantastic team effort and it really means an awful lot to me.

Iranian-born actress Shohreh Aghdashloo won the supporting actress honor for the miniseries House of Saddam.
