A New Model of Love Relations Is Used for a New Internet Matchmaking Site

ALLENTOWN, Pa., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert M. Gordon, Ph.D., a psychologist-researcher and psychoanalyst, developed a comprehensive model of love relations that he will be using on the new Internet matchmaking site, RewardingLove.com (TM) (http://www.RewardingLove.com). His model is based on research from evolutionary psychology, personality temperaments and traits, early attachment, family dynamics, cultural and societal beliefs, and current context (Gordon, 2006, 2008).

Dr. Gordon departs from the other Internet dating sites in that he does not believe that the kind of algorithms that are used for buying products can be used for finding a mutually rewarding love relationship. Research supports that Gordon's system of mutual filtering is more accurate than algorithms of matching people based on simply similar or opposite traits. Dr. Gordon developed a compatibility questionnaire based on his decades of work on healthy and disturbed love relations. Research shows that compatibility predicts the friendship component of love relations, and friendship and mental health are the foundation of any lasting love. This is where self-report questionnaires are most useful. However, attraction and passion, which differentiate love relations from friendships, cannot be assessed with self-reports alone. Since individuals react passionately to sensory cues (seeing, hearing, etc.), photos, private phone conversations and videos all add to the selection process.
The information from RewardingLove.com's mutual filtering process and resulting compatibility graphs provides rational information to be combined with the irrational sensory information. It can provide an objective glance into how the relationship might work out. A person might have a strong attraction to a photograph, but discover with the compatibility graph that there are likely to be a lot of conflicts living together.
Robert M. Gordon, Ph.D., and his wife Alla Gordon, Psy.D., will both be offering relationship advice on the web site. "As far as we know, we will be the only professional husband and wife team, who met online, that will be offering advice on a matchmaking web site," stated Dr. Gordon.
For a limited time, members will have full access to the site's features for free. RewardingLove.com subscriptions are not based on time limits but based on results. Members will be able to communicate with every match if the interest is mutual. Introductory subscriptions will start as low as $9.99 for 100 matches.
