Glam Media Appoints Jack Rotolo As President & General Manager of North America

September 21, 2009

SILICON VALLEY, Calif. and NEW YORK, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ – Glam Media, pioneer of vertical content networks, today announced the promotion of Jack Rotolo to President & General Manager of North America. Glam also announced that its flagship U.S. women’s division is profitable as of September 2009, on the heels of double-digit revenue sequential growth every quarter since the company’s launch in 2005. In this newly created position, Rotolo is responsible for North America sales and operations. Rotolo built and led Glam Media’s advertising sales organization as EVP, and in his new role will leverage the company’s substantial reach of 1,400 sites with more than 6,000 authors & editors in the Glam Publisher Network and its rank as a top 10 Display Ad Publisher. Rotolo will report directly to Glam Media Chairman and CEO Samir Arora.

“Jack was instrumental in building Glam Media’s original advertiser proposition and helping connect brand advertisers with the niche and premium audiences of our network publishers,” said Samir Arora, chairman and CEO of Glam Media. “Under his leadership, Glam Media has become one of the fastest-growing online media companies, from a startup to #1 in reach and now in revenue against a strong list of established traditional and online media companies.”

This promotion marks four years since the launch of the first Glam Media Web service. During this period, Glam Media built the #1 online media company in the U.S. for women in reach. Bucking the trend of most established online and traditional media companies in this downturn, Glam has delivered 14 quarters of sequential growth year over year, making it one of the fastest in revenue growth online. Glam is now firmly established as the #1 in reach and ad revenue for brands reaching women against Yahoo! Shine, iVillage and Conde Nast’s Style.com. As more brands consider moving their media mix away from print magazines and television to the Web, Glam has helped pioneer and build brand engagement using the next generation of technology built in Silicon Valley.

Rotolo created the original sales team at Glam Media that helped propel the company’s strong launch in 2005. In his prior role as EVP of North American Sales, Rotolo was responsible for all advertising sales including agency and brand relationships for the U.S. and Canada. Prior to joining Glam Media, Rotolo had more than 20 years of sales and management experience with leading consumer and media technology brands including PepsiCo, Apple Computer and as head of sales at one of the first publishing platforms company on the Internet — NetObjects.

Additional promotions on the sales team include the appointment of Alison Kennedy to Vice President, Sales of the Eastern Region. A seasoned internet sales veteran in the women’s lifestyle space, Kennedy was previously with Scripps Interactive for eight years. Carl Portale, formerly the publisher of Elle Group, Harper’s Bazaar, Mirabella, Good Housekeeping, Neiman Marcus Magazine, and Town & Country will lead an expanded Brand Relations group.

In preparing for the next stage of Glam Media’s growth, Glam will also announce key hires for building out a new Display Advertising & Solutions team next quarter. With the expanded team, Glam will continue to focus on building its core business in the U.S., while investing in international markets — UK, Germany and Japan.
