Berlin Wall exhibit planned in Vegas
An exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall is being planned in Las Vegas, the Honorary Consul of Germany said Tuesday.
The free event is to take place at the Westin Hotel Oct. 3-4. It involves art, history, education and politics, and is open to the public.
As Germans celebrate their national holiday on Oct. 3, the event coincides with the 20th anniversary of the fall of the wall in Berlin. That remarkable event reunited East and West Germany in 1989 and marked the beginning of a new era in history, organizers said in a release.
It was the end of the cold war, the beginning of a fully united Europe, and proof that peaceful change is possible.
On display will be a replica piece of the Berlin Wall, built by Las Vegas artist John Pacheco. Also planned is a photo exhibit detailing the events that led to the fall of the Wall, as well as screenings of documentary movies and guest speakers who will discuss the subject.
