CLEVELAND, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyland Software today announced it has once again made Software Magazine's 27th annual Software 500 ranking. And this year, Hyland (http://www.onbase.com/English/WhoIsHyland) did more than make the list of the world's largest software and service providers. It also outpaced the average Software 500 company growth rate by 235 percent, helping it to jump 15 places from the previous list.

Hyland was ranked 198, with software revenue of $119.7 million in 2008.
"Obviously, organizations today need software that's proven to quickly solve business problems," said Bill Priemer, chief operating officer for Hyland Software. "But just as importantly, it needs to come from a vendor with a long, stable history and a clearly promising future. After all, companies simply can't afford to choose a product from a provider that might disappear tomorrow. Our almost 20 year history, record of continuous innovation and recognized customer support resonates with organizations. Add the fact that our 2008 growth rate of 29.5 percent was more than triple the average of the entire software market, and we can make a pretty compelling case that choosing to invest in Hyland is a safe, easy choice."
"The results show that revenue growth in the software and services industry was healthy, with total Software 500 revenue of $491.3 billion worldwide for 2008 representing 8.8 percent growth from the previous year," said John P. Desmond, editor of Software Magazine and Softwaremag.com.
"The Software 500 helps CIOs, senior IT managers and IT staff research and create a short list of potential business partners," said Desmond. "It is a quick reference of vendor viability. And the online version is searchable by category, making it what we call the catalog to enterprise software."
Revenue-based rankings, the Software 500 lists the world's largest software and services suppliers targeting medium to large enterprises, their IT professionals, software developers and business managers involved in software and services purchasing. Some 44 percent of the 2009 Software 500 companies are privately held.

The ranking is based on total worldwide software and services revenue for 2008. This includes revenues from software licenses, maintenance and support, training and software-related services and consulting. Suppliers are not ranked on their total corporate revenue, since many have other lines of business, such as hardware. The financial information was gathered by a survey prepared by King Content Co., as well as from public documents, and is posted online.
