BODIES… The Exhibition to Open Oct. 17, 2009 at 1505 Fifth Ave. (Corner of 5th and Pike) in Seattle
SEATTLE, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ — Due to public demand, the most successful exhibition in Seattle’s history will make a triumphant return this October. BODIES… The Exhibition, which has now been seen by more than 15 million visitors, will open Saturday, October 17 at 1505 5th Avenue (Corner of 5th Ave. and Pike), in the heart of downtown. The exhibition will be open daily from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. and will run through March, 2009.
“Washington has embraced this remarkable Exhibition, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to meet the demand and once again present BODIES in Seattle,” said Dr. Roy Glover, chief medical director of BODIES… The Exhibition. “Visitors will have the opportunity to view a beautifully re-designed, groundbreaking exhibition that includes memorable specimens from the past and new systems that will leave them motivated to make healthier and more educated lifestyle choices. This Exhibition will truly change the way people see themselves; it is carefully designed to enlighten, empower, fascinate and inspire.”
The return of BODIES… The Exhibition to Seattle marks one of the few times the provocative exhibition has revisited a host city. Nearly 300,000 visitors experienced “BODIES” during its highly successful 2006/2007 run, often generating sellout crowds as well as a month-long extension. Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance at www.bodiestickets.com to avoid any delays.
“We’re excited to welcome BODIES… The Exhibition back to Seattle,” said Tom Norwalk, president and CEO of Seattle’s Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Seattle’s tourism community is hopeful that new exhibits and special events such as this one will stimulate incremental business for hotels, restaurants, retail stores, dining establishments, attractions and transportation companies.”
BODIES… The Exhibition will provide the public with an opportunity to see inside carefully preserved, real anatomical specimens and learn the detailed structure and function of the human body. The Exhibition takes visitors through galleries providing an up-close look inside the skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, circulatory and other systems of the human body. Many of the full-body specimens are dissected in vivid athletic poses, allowing the visitor to relate to everyday activities. In addition, authentic human specimens illustrate the damage caused to organs by over-eating and lack of exercise. A healthy lung is featured next to a black lung ravaged by smoking in a vivid comparison more powerful than any textbook image.
The human body specimens in the exhibition are preserved through a revolutionary technique called polymer preservation. In this process, human tissue is permanently preserved using liquid silicone rubber that is treated and hardened. The end result is a rubberized specimen, preserved to the cellular level, showcasing the complexity of the body’s many bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels and organs. The full-body specimens can take more than a year to prepare.
The Exhibition is currently receiving worldwide acclaim, attracting nearly 15 million visitors from cities around the world.
