New Begin Smart(TM) Books Engage Babies as They Grow and Learn

Posted on: Tuesday, 6 October 2009, 04:30 CDT

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- New books in Begin Smart's leveled Read-and-Play Program challenge and delight babies up to two years old with age-appropriate concepts, words, and images. Perfect as stocking stuffers, shower gifts, and for home bookshelves, Begin Smart books appeal to all of babies' senses and help lay the groundwork for literacy.

Babies up to six months old and their caretakers can bond over Animal Faces, a soft, cloth book with brightly colored animals and attached rattle, and Look Around and Listen, which comes with a tweeting bird toy. Perfectly sized for little hands, these books help babies focus, track, scan, and recognize objects. Infants will enjoy the different textures and materials, and by reading aloud, adults will help babies learn the sounds and rhythms of speech.

For babies six to twelve months, Bouncy Baby: A First Lift-the-Flap Book is a sturdy board book that builds on babies' love of peek-a-boo, using playful rhymes and colorful graphics to teach object permanence, enhance motor coordination, and assist language development. Baby Says gives babies their own set of hanging cards with teether ring, and helps baby learn to name and identify objects.

Lift-the-flaps and die cuts in Peek-a-Boo What? help babies twelve to eighteen months learn to identify animals; adults can insert their own photo. Push the Button capitalizes on babies' love of pushing buttons and uses repetition to teach different sounds.

How Many Beeps? is a rhyming, die-cut board book with a beeping horn that teaches colors and counting to babies eighteen months to two years, while Hooray for Hands! helps babies celebrate everything hands can do.

Begin Smart's leveled Read-and-Play Program enhances children's motor and cognitive skills and promotes interaction between babies and caregivers. Every Begin Smart book is reviewed by Early Literacy experts and matched to babies' interests and abilities at four color-coded age levels. Each book includes hints for mothers, fathers, grandparents, and child-care providers.

The Begin Smart website, www.beginsmartbooks.com, provides advice from child development experts, tips for creative ways to share Begin Smart books with baby, and an overview of the entire program. A free DVD can be ordered online.
