CultureMap Scores Top Talent: International Society Scribe Shelby Hodge Joins Team

Posted on: Monday, 12 October 2009, 12:21 CDT

HOUSTON, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- CultureMap (www.culturemap.com), a new online magazine and "mapazine" - the first of its kind - today adds another marquee name to its growing collection of bylines. Society reporter and columnist Shelby Hodge, who today stepped down from her longtime post at the Houston Chronicle, has joined CultureMap as Editor-At-Large. A major addition to CultureMap - fitting in snugly with the site's philosophy of fine-tuned local intelligence - Shelby joins Editor-in-Chief Clifford Pugh, former Houston Chronicle style editor, in an exciting team effort.

Socialites - and those who live vicariously through them - now will scour for boldfaced names in a whole new way, because their chronicler-of-choice has a new home. Adding to its already impressive roster of top-notch writers, contributors and editors, CultureMap has tapped Shelby to bring her signature combination of wit, charm, and insider knowledge to the cutting-edge site. Previously, as featured society reporter for more than 18 years at the Houston Chronicle, she has long served as a one-stop-shop for anything and everything on the international social circuit. Her work is required reading for Houston scenesters and the city's cognoscenti.

She has covered four presidential inaugurations, has interviewed a coterie of headliners ranging from Archbishop Desmond Tutu to Oscar de la Renta to Gloria Vanderbilt and has been front and center at every major charitable event in the city. Along the way she has earned the respect and admiration of a broad spectrum of Houstonians.

"I am extremely pleased that Shelby will join our team of seasoned journalists at CultureMap, providing her much praised journalistic style, enlightening insights, and nitty gritty news," said Nic Phillips, President of CultureMap. "CultureMap is the ideal outlet for Shelby to utilize her local expertise and insight. She embodies the essence of CultureMap; she is always at the 'head of the table.'"

Prior to the Chronicle, Hodge worked in various editorial roles with the Houston Post, including serving as Travel Editor for 10 years. Hodge has a degree in Journalism from Louisiana State University.
