Chicago's Best Restaurants, for Less

Posted on: Monday, 12 October 2009, 15:01 CDT

CHICAGO, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- It's easy to spend a lot on fine dining. But here's a little secret: You don't have to.

The November issue of Chicago magazine, which hits newsstands Thursday, unveils a list of the 30 best deals in fine dining for $30 or less--trusty BYOs, prix fixe stunners, and places that don't seem to realize how good they are. The roster includes Cafe des Architectes' spectacular three-course offering and a terrific small-plates spot that doesn't nickel-and-dime you, along with early-bird, late-night, and midweek deals.

"This is a great city for eating out, even when you're trying to watch the dollars," says Richard Babcock, the editor of Chicago. "Some of the best restaurants in Chicago have deals that made the list, along with a few great new finds."

This month's issue also features Babcock's article Prince of the City, a murder mystery that won't go away. As a police reporter for the Chicago Tribune, Jake Lingle spent lavishly and hung out with the city's elite and notorious, including Al Capone. A lethal gunshot ended all that, and 80 years later, questions remain.

Elsewhere in the November issue of Chicago:

  • Trashed: Bryan Smith, Chicago's writer-at-large, examines the heroin epidemic in the western suburbs through the lens of a single case: that of Michael York, a St. Charles teenager who was found dead of an apparent overdose in a West Side alley.
